kiwis on route 66
Another bad day. While pulling out of the camp site the trailer clipped the bumper of a parked pickup. The damage to the plastic bumper was a 6 inch scratch. There was untold drama with the owner who rung the cops. The cop turned up and did a full police interview and report. He then said that he was done then wanted the full story on the convoy. He then decided to give us a full one on one police escort thru stop signs traffic lights and at one stage 50 mile per hour on the wrong side of the road to get us back to the convoy. The next drama was a report that either oil or coolant was leaking out of someone's Ford in the convoy, as we were at the back we stopped and analysed the substance. We determined it was water so we reported it as stuff from the towed toilet trailer which was a great relief for everyone. We fought all day to keep a M151 Jeep Mutt going. It would not idle and if it stopped it would not start and we would have to get out and push start it. This can be challenging on the side of the freeway. The convoy finished at Fort Leonard Wood Military Base with museum tours speeches etc etc. We were granted R&R leave from repair work this night. We were given the full use of a huge town hall for the night. We set up camp on the stage. Regards Paul and Peter Please send your feedback and encouragement to haigh.co@xtra.co.nz
